Scientific Name: Quercus imbricaria
Category: Champion (big) tree
Comments: This is the second largest shingle oak in the state, and is found on the Northern Piedmont Ag Research and Extension Center. Tree is behind the dogwood tree in the picture. Also have a picture of the tree on file with the AREC staff. Believed to be transplanted as a seedling from a nearby forest in 1947.
