Common Name: black oak
Scientific Name: Quercus velutina
Category: Historic tree
Comments: This tree had to be taken down in 2012, a process that was heartbreaking to the owners. Here is their original nomination: The tree is beside a house dated to at least 1736. The road in front of the house is the Washington Rochambeau route. The tree drops ink galls each year, which the owner has used to make ink for 20 years. The ink is beautiful!
Nominator: Vicki Slonneger
