Leaf:Evergreen needles in fascicles of 3, up to 4 inches long, stiff and sharp, lustrous, yellow-green, persistent for 3 or 4 years.
Flower:Species is monoecious; males cylindrical, yellowish in clusters, females yellow-green.
Fruit:Cone, 2 to 3 inches long, egg-shaped, squat, light brown, armed with a small prickle.
Twig:Grayish green, glabrous.
Bark:Exfoliating in irregular plates, grayish green with irregular chalky white or brownish patches, very attractive.
Form:Small tree up to 60 feet tall, pyramidal crown, often with many trunks.
