Forest Fragmentation may be the biggest impact that roads have on wildlife and forests. Fragmentation is when large areas of forest are broken up into smaller and smaller areas of forest. Many animals need large areas of undisturbed forests to live in (example: grizzly bears). Forest fragmentation forces these animals to live in smaller and smaller areas, and can lead to inbreeding and then to a decrease in genetic diversity.
