black locusts (Robinia pseudoacacia)

This clump of trees is in decline (meaning their best and healthiest days have passed them by). Trees in decline tend to break more easily than do healthy trees during weather events with heavy snow, ice and wind. Though it is rare, trees and large branches sometimes break and fall at the exact moment some unlucky person is standing under the tree. Serious injury, if not death results. For this reason it is wise to stay away from old trees during bad weather. At the very least keep your head up and your eyes open for possible dangers (or trade your baseball hat in for a hardhat and wear it everyday).
