eastern redcedar (Juniperus virginiana)

This tough evergreen tree can be found growing naturally from New England down to Georgia, and out west as far as the Rocky mountains. Notice the latin name credits your home state! Eastern redcedar, commonly known as juniper, can tolerate extremes of both heat and cold, and grows in soils as unhospitable as cement. Birds love to eat the blueish berries produced by female trees.
