yellow buckeye (Aesculus octandra)
| This massive tree, located by where the creek emerges from the small hill beside the baseball field, is very old and impressive. The trunk is easily 3ft. in diameter. The flowers form in April and are large and yellow and interestingly shaped. The leaves are structured in what is called a compound palmate form - several smaller leaflets arranged together to form one larger leaf. Make sure to take a good look at this tree someday, as it deserves. (note: don't touch the trunk of this tree without first acknowledging the very large poison ivy vine that grows up it.) |
