Leaf: Opposite, simple, ovate, to 6 inches, evergreen; upper surface with sunken veins, both surfaces with bristly hairs; margins serrated; fragrant when crushed.
Flower: Very showy and fragrant; appearing in 2 inch dense umbrella-shaped clusters; individual flowers are trumpet-shaped, 1/4 inch across, 4-lobed, with color ranging from white to yellow-orange to pink-coral to red; present year-round where moisture and temperature permit.
Fruit: A 1/4 inch berry-like drupe; initially green, ripening to purple-black; borne on tall stalks.
Twig: Green, angular, may be covered in bristly hairs or armed with hooked spines.
Bark: Gray-brown, rough, becoming irregularly ridged and furrowed with age.
Form: A sprawling shrub to 6 feet tall, or a much taller vine if offered a supporting structure.
