Leaf:Alternate, very small, 1/16 inch and scale-like, pale green.
Flower:Small, lavender pink, numerous and occurring all along the twig, very attractive, appearing in early spring.
Fruit:Small, dry capsules containing small cottony seeds, ripen in late spring.
Twig:Slender, drooping branches covered in scale-like foliage.
Bark:Initially smooth with numerous elongated lenticels, later developing shallow splits.
Form:Shrub or small tree up to 30 feet tall, branches arching.
