Leaf:Alternate, evergreen, palmately compound, 4 inches long, 6 to 10 lanceolate to oblanceolate leaflets, each up to 1 inch long, silvery-white with silky hairs.
Flower:Very showy, violet to lavender, in upright 6-8 inch spikes with flowers that are not whorled on the stalk; appearing spring to mid-summer; fragrant.
Fruit:Pea-like brown-hairy pods, 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches long; twist open violently when ripe, expelling seeds.
Twig:Green to gray-green.
Bark:Gray.
Form:Erect woody shrub to 5 feet tall; irregulary rounded in the open.
