deerbrush Rhamnaceae Ceanothus integerrimus Hook. & Arn. symbol: CEIN3
Leaf: Alternate, simple, deciduous (occasionally semi-persistent), ovate to elliptical, 1 to 3 inches long, thin, entire margins, dark green and glabrous above and paler below, 3-veined from the base.
Flower: Perfect and complete small white flowers (sometimes blue, pink, or lavender) borne in long terminal or axillary clusters.
Fruit: Small, round to triangular, sticky capsule up to 3/16 inch in diameter' each lobe is ridged.
Twig: Slender, smooth, round, and arching, bright green to tannish green, often somewhat striped, older twigs may be warty.
Bark: May retain green striping of twigs for many years, then turns gray.
Form: An erect, loosely branched shrub 4 to 12 feet tall.
Looks like: whitethorn ceanothus - snowbrush - redstem ceanothus - blueblossom
