Trees per acre: 173 removed, leaving 259

Total value harvested per acre: $1016 *

  • Sawtimber: 0 tons = $0
  • Chip and Saw: 34 tons = $777
  • Pulpwood: 32 tons (12.3 cords) = $239

The goal of this thinning was not to remove the biggest trees, just to remove half of the trees, or every other row. Please remember that this data is based on a single sample point. This 50% thinning operation just happened to remove 3 of the 4 most valuable (biggest) trees at this sample point. Statistically, other sample points might show that most of the larger trees were left to grow.

* Growth data represented here is based on one prism point sample within the harvested stand. Monetary data is based on 2003 dollars and timber values. Actual payments to landowners are generally 50% of gross payments, but vary widely with distance to mills, terrain, harvest size, etc.
